one day of London

people are so fascinating about London. we hear French, Spanish, we are served by Eastern Europeans. we wonder where all the British are. we walk London and guess for how long i will still retain my American accent

oh, statistics. that is what we came here for.
to discuss what statistics tell us about us rather than about the phenomena we wish to quantify. where do these numbers come from? who made them up? and what do we lose if we cannot prove the claims we make? our fear is it is way more than you could ever quantify.

being tour guides to each other. i have the pleasure to explore London with a walking encyclopedia at my side. we stop in front of Oliver Cromwell's statue. hero to some, perpetrator to others. a monument to the middle class dictator who interrupted English monarchy and killed tens of thousands of Irish Catholics. a man hated so much by the Royalists they dug up his body from his resting place in Westminster Abbey and beheaded him. i hear the Irish continue hating him very much until today

Trafalgar Square.

The monument for killing the French and Spanish.
