My friend threw a surprise party for her best friend's 60th birthday last night. All day long we worked the kitchen, chopping, washing, cleaning stuff out to mess it all up once again. It was a lot of fun as we danced our way through the dishes, putting on one CD after the other to keep the creative juices flowing.
In the late afternoon i abandoned the house, missing the actual party and surprise. Two hours later i was explaining the logic of fractions and mixed numbers by producing cakes on a white board. When my students grew tired of slicing cake they asked for pizza... But most importantly, they got the fraction problems right!
I could not have been happier. Being of service in such various ways filled me with gratitude and a feeling of belonging right here, right now. Plus, tons of leftovers were waiting for me at home. The visit to the refrigerator has been a feast ever since. Food goes to my stomach and from there right to my heart...
