Flirting with Belgrade

Friday night two Finish girls from Helsinki - Ana and Ani - asked me to join them for drinks, given i was sitting at a table all by myself. I happily did, but i had been so happy all by myself already. Feasting over cabbage, tomato-cheese salad, cheese pie, and a glass of red wine from the region, musicians courting the tables around me, the patron constantly putting more tables out on the cobble-stones after successfully drawing new guests in, the warm summer night, the incredible sound all around me - i was sitting at my table, smiling all over my face, and caught myself mumbling from time to time "Ist das abgefahren". I tried to grasp the buzz i was in with all my senses.

Sipping mojito and caipirinha, Ani and Ana told me about their summer travel in the Balkans, passing Budapest, Bucharest, and Belgrade so far. We laughed at the cultural differences they encountered along the way. Apparently, men generally could not understand that these two young women aged in their early thirties travelled all by themselves - without men! Ana and Ani instructed me on where to stroll the next morning, what not to miss, and they recommended freshly made lemonade - a treat they had been enjoying throughout their trip.

So off and out i went on Saturday morning, roaming the centre, soaking the most possible heat and sunshine in (knowing well where to i'd return), making sure i had lovely lemonade midst the locals looking for similar refreshment, while zoning out in cozy cafés. Lazy Saturdays in sticky Belgrade couldn't be any better.
